Unfolded is a movement to make clothes without waste and use the savings to support a positive impact in the world. We were founded in 2021 by Cally Russell, Jamie Sutherland and Hilde Frydnes.&#xA0;Before Unfolded we used to help big brands remove the waste from their business - but we realised that for real change to happen, we had to build a totally new way to shop.&#xA0;We&apos;re a company focused on positive impact in everything we do. Over 100,000 women have joined our mission to remove the waste from the fashion industry so far and help design everything we make to make that dream a reality.We&apos;re based in Edinburgh, Scotland - the fashion capital of the world... All of our clothes are made in ethical factories in India. Our returns are handled by a partner near Nottingham.We don&#x2019;t have an office as we don&#x2019;t want to create additional costs and reduce our impact focus. Our StoryCally, Jamie and Hilde previously worked together helping big brands reduce the waste they created, but they wouldn&apos;t change!Before Unfolded, we ran Mallzee, a tech company that used data to help brands decide what to make&#x2014;and what to avoid. The idea was simple: better insight data, fewer unwanted clothes.Despite our efforts, these companies wouldn&#x2019;t change&#x2014;they kept creating mountains of waste. With their profit margins, it was easier to just pump out waste rather than fix their broken model...&#xA0;During COVID, many fashion brands cancelled orders for clothes already made and refused to pay the factories. This left millions of garment workers facing unimaginable hardship.We couldn&#x2019;t accept this, so we launched Lost Stock: an initiative where people bought a mystery box of the cancelled clothes. Each purchase supported a Bangladeshi garment worker&#x2019;s family for a week and kept these new clothes out of landfill.With Lost Stock we ended up supporting 113,000 people for a month each during Covid!Realising that no matter what we did they wouldn&#x2019;t change, we founded Unfolded to take on fast fashion and build a way to make clothes that are better for the planet, the people who make them and you... &#xA0;At Unfolded our community helps design everything we make and our clothes are made after you order &#x2014;eliminating waste. The savings this creates go toward higher wages for garment workers and literacy programmes for kids living near our factories in India. These schools focus on kids who have dropped out of mainstream education and have fallen behind. They&#x2019;re supported to catch up before re-entering mainstream education. The literacy rate in India is 74%, compared to 99% in the UK, and this is due to kids dropping out of school - this work addresses this.&#xA0;</li><li dir="ltr" style="text-decoration:none;">Education programmes throughout India helping kids to learn to read and write.&#xA0;</li></ol>And importantly - we are also a zero waste company!Nothing sent to landfill - the fashion industry doesn&#x2019;t sell 30% of what it makes, meaning many items are sent straight to landfill or just sent straight to recycling.At Unfolded we only make after we start taking orders - removing the waste from the process and aligning supply to demand.We design every item with your help, making sure we only make what you want!We also carbon offset any emissions created in transportation.Prices are up to 40% cheaper than traditional brands - we pass some of the savings created through removing the waste, on to you.You help design every item - meaning they&#x2019;re perfect!Amazing sustainable fabrics - we&#x2019;ve used decades of experience to ensure we find fabrics that you&#x2019;ll love! With some of the money saved by removing over production and waste from the process we pay garment workers higher wages and also fund kids living near our factories in India to learn to read and write.This is done via the amazing Pratham charity, which runs schools and education programmes in India.&#xA0;Pratham is a leading Indian Education charity, they were founded in the 1980s and have helped millions of children to learn to read and write using their educational support methodology. This approach can significantly speed up the learning process and has won international recognition.Every piece of eco-friendly clothing bought from This is Unfolded supports a child learning to read and write with leading Indian education NGO - Pratham.Pratham powers This is Unfolded&apos;s education support in India. When you buy a dress from Unfolded, you support a child in education for 2 months, and a top funds 1 month of education. Our factories are members of Sedex, a platform promoting ethical, socially sustainable production and positive labour conditions through regular audits.Our partner factories are Oeko-Tex approved and certified for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard for organic cottons), GRS (Global Recycle Standard for recycled polys), and OCS (Organic Content Standard for fabric blends with organic cotton).Oeko-Tex ensures fabrics are free from harmful chemicals, while organic certifications guarantee sustainable production methods.All cutting waste is recycled into rugs and cords&#x2014;nothing goes to landfill.We regularly audit our factory partners and also run spot checks on them.
